Aquaculture graduate degree programs were first opened under Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University. Later, in 2007, Sinop University waqs founded and and along with other graduate programs in Graduate School of Natural Sciences were transferred to Sinop University. In our department, master and doctorate programs are carried out, 4 Professors, 3 Associate Professors and 3 Assistant Professors are working.

The purpose of Aquaculture Master’s degree program is to provide students with necessary skills for conducting independent research; the ability to examine and interpret scientific events with a broad and deeper perspective; the ability to determine the necessary steps to reach new syntheses. Program of study in Aquaculture Master’s degree program consists of minimum 8 courses including Seminar (60 ECTS) and thesis study, a total of 120 ECTS. Students have a minimum of 4 semesters and maximum of 6 semesters to complete the program.

The purpose of Aquaculture Doctoral program is to provide students with necessary skills for conducting independent research; the ability to examine and interpret scientific events with a broad and deeper perspective; the ability to determine the necessary steps to reach new syntheses. The Ph.D. program in Aquaculture covers 8 semesters of education. The program consists of a total of 21 national credits for students who are accepted with a master’s degree and a minimum of seven courses, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal and a thesis study of not less than 60 ECTS. For students admitted with a Bachelor’s degree, a total of at least 42 national credits, 14 courses, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal and a thesis study, a total of at least 300 ECTS credits.

Graduates after receiving their PhD in Aquaculture may continue to work at universities as teaching faculty or researchers. They can also work at State institutions such as Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Urban, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Work, and City Corporations. Additionally, they can start their own business such as fish farms, suppliers to the fish farms, and feed factories.
