Do you have marine biodiversity data that you want to publish to OBIS? Have you struggled with data preparation and formatting? Do you need a refresher on the OBIS data workflow? Now open from Oct 2, 2023 to Feb 16, 2024 is a comprehensive self-paced course on contributing datasets to OBIS!
This detailed course will walk you through all the steps required for publishing data to OBIS, at your own pace. It begins with an introduction to data standards like Darwin Core, provides step-by-step guidance for how to format Event, Occurrence, and extendedMeasurementOrFact (eMoF) tables. There are dedicated modules demonstrating how to organize and publish DNA data, as well as how to use the controlled vocabulary required for the eMoF. The course ends with modules on how to check the data quality of a dataset, how to publish on Integrated Publishing Toolkits, and finally the different ways for how to access data within OBIS. Complete with short quizzes to test your knowledge and assignments that allow you to practice the content you are learning, this course pairs well with the newly updated OBIS Manual. As the course is quite thorough, expect to dedicate ~32 hours to complete everything. Our course instructor will be monitoring the course to provide feedback and grade assignments, ensuring you will get the most out of the course as possible.
The course is hosted on Ocean Teacher Global Academy and is freely accessible. You only need to login with an OceanExpert account. For more information on how to enroll in the course, visit the course page: oceanexpert.org/event/3983.
