Oceans cover more than 70% of our planet’s surface, yet they are scarcely known.

The course offers an introduction to different circulation patterns, sediment types, environments and organisms in the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Arctic Seas. Included is also a visit to the Askö field station of the Marine Research Centre. We will travel on the research vessel of the Marine Research Station, core sediments from the bottom of the Baltic Sea and study the instruments which are commonly used by researchers. Thereby we will obtain a deeper insight into the oceanographic, sedimentological and ecological conditions which are specific for the Baltic Sea.
