The International Transportation Management graduate program provides a solid foundation in international business, economics and law, in transportation management and in systems analysis.
As a student in our program, you can use our vast array of elective courses - covering liner and tramp shipping, port operations, international trade, economics, insurance, law and other topics - to design a program tailored to your needs and interests. Or you may follow one of five tracks: business of shipping; global transportation security; international logistics; marine insurance; or research in international logistics and shipping.
Academic Program
The Master of Science in International Transportation Management is a high quality and competitive graduate-level business education for those interested in pursuing a career in international business with a special emphasis on transportation and trade.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
THREE PROGRAM OPTIONS
34-CREDIT DEGREE
This program involves four core courses, six electives based on your interests and professional goals, and one culminating capstone course. This program can be completed online, on campus or a blend of the two.
40-CREDIT DEGREE
This program includes the Advanced Certificate in Supply Chain Management, an additional credential to help you in your career. The program includes four core courses, five supply-chain management courses, three electives of your choice, and the culminating capstone. This program cannot be completed online.
96-CREDIT DEGREE
This program includes the 34-credit master's degree as well as a U.S. Coast Guard third mate license. The license includes 62 credits at the undergraduate level. Though you may take courses online, the license component of the program must be completed on campus.

International Transportation Management provides a solid foundation in international business, economics and law, transportation management, and systems analysis.
As an ITM student, you may choose from a variety of elective courses to suit your interests and professional needs, including liner and tramp shipping, port operations, international trade, economics, insurance, law and other topics.
Alternatively, you may choose to follow one of five tracks that have been established for you. You must successfully complete four of the track's designated courses to have the track listed on your academic transcript. The track options are:

CAPSTONE COURSE OR THESIS
With the capstone option, a student will take one 3-credit course that is the culmination of the ITM program and is designed to draw upon the knowledge acquired in all of the preceding courses. Students work in groups to perform directed team research and make a group presentation to faculty and outside evaluators. The prerequisite for the capstone course is completion of all core courses with a total of 25 completed credits and a 3.0 GPA.
With the thesis option, a student will work with a supervising faculty member to conduct original research and write a thesis paper in two 3-credit courses.
Certificate Programs
The ITM program offers two separate certificates:
CHARTERING CERTIFICATE
The chartering certificate may be completed as part of the regular 34-credit master's program or on its own. To earn the certification, you must successfully complete two courses in charter parties: TMGT 8450 Advanced Charter Parties I and TMGT 8460 Advanced Charter Parties II. These courses are offered in cooperation with the Association of Ship Brokers and Agents, the U.S. representative to the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
This 21-credit certificate allows for graduate studies in specialized supply-chain management courses. Demande for supply-chain management professionals has been growing for more than a decade; earning this stand-along certificate can fast-track your career in a growing profession. This program cannot be completed online.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
U.S. Coast Guard License
In addition to the standard curriculum, a student may pursue a U.S. Coast Guard deck license. Licensure creates the opportunity for a graduate to work on a marine vessel as a third mate. To earn a license, you must be an on-campus student and belong to the regiment of cadets. This program is a 96-credit program, including the 62-credit undergraduate license program.
