This programme is a significant part of the Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) training requirements for students to gain the internationally recognised Standards of Training and Certification of Watchkeepers (STCW) Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch Class 3 certificate of competency and / or the domestic Class 4 certificate of competency.

STCW Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch Class 3 (MEC3) Certificate of Competency

This qualification provides the domestic and international maritime industry, with marine engineers who are able to work as Engineer Officer of the Watch on merchant navy vessels of any size and propulsion power, anywhere in the world.

MNZ Marine Engineer Class 4 (MEC4) STCW-F

Provides the domestic maritime industry, with marine engineers who are able to work in as Chief Engineer.
