The MSc programme entitled “Sustainability and Quality in Marine Industry” addresses the current challenges in the marine industry, with particular reference to blue growth and sustainable shipping. It deals with innovative growth approaches, “clean” and environmentally friendly options as well as management models that minimize the potential of environmental, safety and security risks associated with the human activity in the marine and coastal environment.

Application procedure

The admissions policy for the MSc in Shipping Management (University of Piraeus) conforms with the University regulations and Policies for Admissions to Postgraduate Taught Programmes of Study in Greece. Special care for Equality, Diversity, and access to the program for those not financially privileged has been taken. Admissions to the program will be determined by the Department but can be indicatively described in accordance with general entry requirements as a Good Bachelor´s degree (2.1 in English or over 6.5 in Greek) in a relevant to the shipping business field sector. Any relevant management experience or professional qualifications are highly considered and well valued.  It is especially noted that for candidates whose first language is not English or they have not studied at an English speaking University before, the evidence is required of spoken and written ability in English (C1 Level minimum requirement)

The admission committee may -at its discretion- require certain entrance examinations comprising either of an interview or of a written paper and/or a 30-minute oral exam.

This Shipping Management Course is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and expertise required for a successful career in the demanding and competitive world of shipping. You will gain solid insights of ship management while equipping yourself with management tools for efficient decision-making, and the methods, concepts, and theories to enable you to understand and analyze in a holistic and multidisciplinary way, the complexities of the global Shipping industry.

By the end of the program, participants will be expected to:

A. Setting

  1. develop an ability to take decisions in time-pressured and unpredictable business situations

  1. understand the concept of shipping markets, demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the concepts, terminology, analytic techniques, theories and disciplines which underpin the shipping business.
  2. be able to demonstrate an understanding of the techniques applicable to the postgraduate shipping research in order to apply them when developing and applying shipping strategies.
  3. be able to effectively synthesize important terminology, facts, concepts, principles, analytic techniques, and theories used in the field of shipping as demonstrated through the successful development of a shipping business plan.
  4. develop an initiative and originality in shipping problem-solving.
