Course contents:
The topic is project based. The students shall work in groups and carry out a project including project planning, feed production, and carrying out a nutritional experiment with fish (salmonids or tilapia), and relevant analyses. The students will be supervised through lectures given by specialists in feed development, feed ingredients, fish nutrition, and growth. The results shall be presented by the students at the end of the course.
Prerequisites
General nutrition at 200 level (AQN 251 or HFE200), or equivalent.
Recommended prerequisites:
HFE305, Feed Manufacturing Technology.
Learning outcomes
Students will gain both theoretical and practical experience of feed formulation and biological feed evaluation. The student will also obtain a theoretical understanding of the principles behind feed formulation and nutrition physiology, thus allowing an understanding of the economical, technical and biological challenges of todays and tomorrow"s aquaculture industry from a feed management perspective. In addition the students will gain practical experience from nutritional studies with fish.
