Course contents:

The students will learn about the major principles underlying the design of breeding schemes, the biological restrictions for species involved, tagging methods and economical considerations. Also breeding strategies, breeding methods and breeding goals, genotype by environment interactions and the application of modern DNA tools in aquaculture will be covered.

Prerequisites

Recommended prerequisites:

HFA200 or AQB200 is recommended

Basic knowledge in statistics and genetics

Learning outcomes

The students are to acquire sound knowledge in the use of traditional and modern fish breeding methods, as well as some major aquaculture breeding programmes. The students are to gain skills in the evaluation of various breeding strategies.
