The course is aimed to provide the required knowledge, skills and attitudes of Cadets sufficient to carry out the watchkeeping duties as set out in Sec. A-II/1 of the STCW Code 1995. The BSMT course specifically prepares the Cadets for satisfying the minimum requirements for certification as officers-in-charge of Navigational Watch and for Third Mate/ Officer licensure examination as defined under Republic Act 8544 known as the "Philippine Merchant Marine Officers Act of 1998".

Application procedure

Admission Requirements for Foreign Students (Incoming Freshmen) As per ACFS Memo Order No., Series 2000, Office of the President of the Philippines:

1. Letter of Application/Intent, address to the Registrar

2. If qualified, the following are required:

2.1 Six(6) copies of the Original Personal History Statement (PHS) and Student’s Admission Review Checklist (REG – 2C) with 2x2 colored picture of the application.

2.2 Original and Two (2) copies of all pages of the academic records (diploma, report cards, mark sheets, etc.) of the applicant with seal of the Philippines Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin of the applicant.

2.3 Original and Two (2) photocopies of the affidavit of support.

2.4 The Statement of Adequate Financial Capabilities.

2.5 Three (3) photocopies of the passport (with photo, information and birth certificate of the applicant) authenticated by the Philippines Consul.

2.6 Alien Certification Registration (ACR).

2.7 Photocopy of Student Visa.
