The professional graduated in Oceanography must have a professional and scientific training that will allow him, in general, once the course is completed, to be able to:

- Formulate, elaborate, execute, supervise and direct studies, planning, projects and / or basic and applied scientific research, interdisciplinary or not, aiming at knowledge and the rational use of the marine environment, in all its domains, carrying out, directly or indirectly:

  • survey, processing and interpretation of the physical, chemical, biological and geological conditions of the marine environment, their interactions, as well as the prediction of the behavior of these parameters and the phenomena related to them;
  • development and application of methods, processes and techniques for the exploration, exploitation, processing and control of marine resources;
  • development and application of methods, processes and techniques for the preservation, monitoring and management of the marine environment;
  • development and application of oceanographic methods, processes and techniques related to works, installations, structures and any projects in the marine area;

- Guide, direct, advise and consult with companies, foundations, societies and professional associations, autonomous, private or government entities;

- Carry out expert examinations, issue and sign technical opinions and reports;

- Directing oceanography bodies, services, sections, groups or sectors in autarchic, private or government entities.

Course objectives

The objective of the Oceanography Bachelor course at IOUSP is to train professionals with general and comprehensive knowledge, but with the solid training of a specialist in the integrated study of marine processes. The course takes into account the diversity of approaches and content of the different areas of Oceanography, namely, Physics, Chemistry, Geology and Biology, aimed at understanding the processes and interpreting and predicting phenomena that occur in the oceans and transitional environments with a view to rational use of its renewable and non-renewable resources, observing the position of the human being in this context.

Subjects

The student must take 20 credits in optional elective courses and 10 credits in free optional courses. The student must fulfill a mandatory 150-hour embedded internship. All the subjects are in the webpage.
