The Master in Aquaculture (MACUI) is a mixed postgraduate program dependent on the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the Universidad Católica del Norte and has the collaboration of academics (ANNEX1) linked to the Department of Aquaculture, the Department of Biology Marina, School of Risk Prevention and Environment, and the School of Business Sciences.

The mixed modality of MACUI integrates the academic (research) and professional (practical application) components to promote research and the practical application of advanced knowledge and techniques in aquaculture.

The graduate of the Master in Aquaculture, from the Catholic University of the North, is a specialist with a holistic vision with emphasis on research and application of scientific and technological knowledge in the areas of:

a) Biology applied to Aquaculture

b) Engineering and Technology to the design and operation of aquaculture production systems

c) Management in aquaculture companies and organizations

Objectives
The program aims to contribute to the formation of advanced human capital for the development of aquaculture activity, delivering the necessary skills to perform research, innovation and management in the field of aquaculture.

Train highly qualified specialists that generate sustainable and sustainable development strategies for this productive sector.

Addressed to:
The Master's Program in Aquaculture is aimed at nationals and foreigners who are in possession of a higher level university degree or academic degree in science or technology extended by Chilean or foreign universities whose curriculum is not less than 8 semesters.

Study program
The Study program of the Master in Aquaculture has two research subjects, three fundamental subjects, two compulsory fundamental electives, one elective and three graduation activities that are distributed in three consecutive semesters. Each semester includes a maximum of 30 SCT, which total 90 SCT at the end of the program.

The fundamental electives (must necessarily take two of the same line) are:

a) Applied biology line: Applications and innovation in the production of aquaculture species; Domestication of new hydrobiological species;

b) Engineering and Technology Line to the Design and Operation of Aquaculture Production Systems: Aquaculture production systems; Technological projects in aquaculture;

c) Management Line in Aquaculture Companies and Organizations: Strategic evaluation of aquaculture businesses; Bioeconomy

 

Prerrequisitos

d) LEGALIZED COPY OF IDENTITY OR PASSPORT ID CARD.

e) LEGALIZED COPY OF THE ACADEMIC GRADUATE DEGREE / A AND / OR PROFESSIONAL TITLE, or its equivalent in the case of undergraduate studies conducted abroad or certificate thereof, as appropriate. Those who are in the process of processing their academic degree or professional degree must present CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE COMPETENT AUTHORITY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ORIGIN, to account for such circumstance. At the time of enrollment, they must submit original document of the Academic Degree and / or Professional Degree.

f) CERTIFICATE OF CONCENTRATION OF UNDERGRADUATE NOTES, signed by the competent authority valid for 1 year at the time of application

g) PRE-GRADUATE RANKING CERTIFICATE, issued by the competent authority of the home university, where the place that the applicant occupied with respect to the total number of graduates of their promotion or cohort is explicitly expressed. If the university where you did your studies does not have such certification, you must present a UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATE that demonstrates the absence of such indicator. The ranking certification is not mandatory if it is credited to have obtained a final average of undergraduate equal to or greater than 5.0, over a maximum of 7.0 or its equivalent. h) APPLICANTS SHOULD CREDIT THE FINAL NOTE OBTAINED IN PREGRADE expressed on a scale of grades from 1 to 7 in order to determine if they have the academic requirement according to Art 21 a. This note must appear expressly in some of the documents indicated in Art. 25 letters f, g and h on a scale of grades from 1 to 7. This is not mandatory when the applicant proves to be within the top 30% of the undergraduate ranking.

i) PROPOSED PROJECT OF THESIS. This should indicate what the problem is to be analyzed, why it is identified as a problem, as others have been trying to solve the problem and proposed to solve it. j) TECHNICAL ENGLISH READING AND UNDERSTANDING ACCREDITATION. Prove proficiency in English reading of the specialty through any certification with international validity in the Listening and Reading mode to measure the passive skills of listening and reading the English language in the work and / or academic context.

The certification must contain an evaluation scale by means of grades or percentages indicating in words the ability achieved or its equivalents for elementary, intermediate and advanced level. The certification must be issued for up to 12 months prior to the program application process. In the case of foreign applicants whose mother tongue is not Spanish, they must prove certification indicating at least 70% in oral capacity, reading and writing in the Spanish language.
