Students are encouraged to ask questions and seek solutions for understanding the functioning of the oceans as a whole and the coastal zone in particular. Thus, it is expected to contribute to the training of conscious, critical professionals with environmental, social and economic responsibility.

In compliance with the competences of the oceanographer, defined by the Curriculum Guidelines for Oceanography Courses proposed by the MEC (Ministério da Educação), the UFSC course has specific objectives:

  3. Enable the student to act as a leader in different spheres and sectors related to Oceanography;
  4. Enable the student to coordinate inter and transdisciplinary activities related to the marine environment;
  5. Enable the student to develop mechanisms and strategies aimed at teaching oceanography and environmental education;
  6. Enable the student to perform his professional activities in an ethical and responsible manner.
