Course Description:
This course is meant to give the participant a comprehensive view of economics and strategy of global fisheries value chain management and evaluation of fisheries technology and performance. The course focus on the challenges that are unique to the seafood- and aquaculture sector and the solutions to deal with these problems, such as value chain organization and mechanization. The heterogeneity of fish as an input creates special challenges that are difficult to deal with using standard mechanization, but can effectively be dealt with using smart technology. There will be special emphasis on the operational environment that is unique to the fishery sector and important factors that affects results such as value creation, natural conditions on supply chain and market conditions.

- Students should understand the key characteristics of fish and fish value chains.
- Students should understand the unique problems faced by managers of fishing companies.
- Students should develop an understanding of what is needed to operate competitive fisheries industry.
- Students should be able to analyse management problems of fishing companies and identify strategies to address them using management tools such as modern technical solutions, market connections and value chain reorganization.
