About the Department
Marine Mechanical Engineering Department was launched in 2010-2011academic year. It is an additional new department of Myanmar Maritime University to cover the students’ career-oriented training courses not only in the maritime field but also in the mechanical field. Since there is a shortage of maritime professionals in the shipping industry and the lack of quality in mechanical engineering jobs, it is the best choice to take up marine mechanical engineering course.
The academic program of Marine Mechanical Engineering Department was started from 2011-2012academic year. The first batch of Marine Mechanical Engineering students have been graduated in 2017 February.
All subjects provided by the Department are mainly intended to meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency for the field of maritime industrial control engineering and shipyard in machine design, ship design, ship production technology and etc. The Department offers the Bachelor of Marine Mechanical Engineering B.E (Marine Mechanical) program after five years.
Marine Mechanical Engineering Department opens the doors of opportunities to all students who are enthusiastic in marine mechanical engineering technology. We hope to fulfill the deficiency of maritime industrial experts by our qualified marine mechanical engineering students.
Aims and Objectives
This study program aims to produce the skillful marine mechanical engineers for machinery design and ship production technology at Maritime Industries and Shipyard.
- To design and product one practical equipment in (2017-2018) academic year.
- At least 1 time, in (2017-2018) academic year, the research and development project competition programs are to be held for the students to acquire the maritime knowledge and the modern engineering control technology.
Prerrequisitos
The students who have passed the Matriculation Examination and have desired to join MMU, have to apply to the University Entrance Committee of Ministry of Education and Department of Higher Education. The criteria to join MMU are as follows;

The student must be Myanmar national.

The numbers of accepted male students will be 320 that is 80% of total students and the rest 20% will be female students.

All students must be in good health.

Female students can apply for all specializations (i.e. 5 specializations) Marine Engineering and Nautical Science.

The students should have the ability of choosing colour test before entering the university. Male students who wear glasses can not apply Nautical Science.

Students who passed the matriculation examination with the following combinations can apply to MMU:

All Students are to be personally interviewed.

All students not only have to take workshop skill and to attend other training conducted outside of the MMU, but also get one year sea-service (or) on board training as the apprenticeship by their own arrangement in accordance with the rules and regulations adopted by Department of Marine Administration (DMA).
