General information

The study of key topics and concepts, recent and historical, in oceanography through selected scientific papers. A selected list of topics in all areas of oceanography are going to be proposed to be addressed. This will be done through key papers. Each student will select one key paper and develop the ideas presented in the paper and the influence the paper has had or is having in the field.

Each session will consist of an introduction of the topic by the lecturer and a presentation by the student, followed by a general discussion of the topic. Total session duration: 2.5 h.

There will be a list of topics with key scientific papers. All students will have to read all papers and be ready to discuss them in class. Additional reading will be recommended for all students and necessary for the student addressing a particular topic. The teaching language is English, but the discussions can be done in Catalan or Spanish if all students agree.

Cost:

Full price of this course is 255€. A reduced registration fee of 215€ is applied for early registrations (20 days before the opening of the course).


Prerequisites:

Degree in Marine Sciences or related field. The student will have to have his/her own computer access, especially to access the internet and to produce powerpoint presentations.

Regulations:

Students attending to at least 80% of the classes will receive a certificate confirming their participation in the course, signed by the Barcelona Ocean responsible person and by the Lecturer of the course.
