PLOCAN Glider School 2017

PLOCAN Glider School aims to focus into underwater glider technologies and their wide range of applications for ocean monitoring. Students and professionals from marine science and technological fields interested to learn on this specific and emerging underwater vehicle technology are really welcome to join in.

The PLOCAN Glider School provides a state-of-the-art overview and the operational basics of these specific autonomous underwater vehicles. Theoretical and practical teaching sessions are included, being the practical ones performed with a fleet of gliders fitted by the main commercial technologies availables in both laboratory and surrounding open waters in Canaries.

PLOCAN is an initiative committed with both its adjoining socioeconomic environment and the international excellence in science and technology. Hence, it promotes this call which is oriented towards university students in the marine-maritime and technological scopes, as well as technicians/ professionals of the sector. The objective is to train them in theoretical and practical abilities and skills concerning underwater vehicles, as gliders.

  • Professionals: 1.000 €
  • Students: 600 €

The registration fee covers expenses derived from the school itself, boat trips for deployment and/or recovery of gliders, return transfers between the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and PLOCAN every school day, coffee breaks and lunches. 

  • Be a professional in the technological sector, preferably coming from areas related to the marine-maritime scope; or alternatively be a university/ professional training student, who has approved half of the credits in the scope of a technological or marine- maritime degree.
  • English language similar to B2 level, which corresponds to the CEFR (Common European Framework for Languages) regarding listening, reading, spoken interaction, spoken production and writing.
