General information

The Universidade do Algarve is organizing the second edition of the Ocean Technology Summer School, to take place from 06 July to 10 July 2015. Building upon the experience of previous schools (including OT2014) the OT2015 summer school is designed to provide an integrated view of theoretical, numerical and experimental tools related to different areas and applications of ocean technology, such as instrumentation, observation techniques, modeling of coastal processes, underwater sound propagation, signal processing, bottom mapping and (this year) robotics.

The summer school spans five days with a total of 42 hours, with the first day dedicated to a set of lectures covering modeling, instrumentation and observation methods. The second day is dedicated to a hands-on sea trial, and the last three days are dedicated to additional lectures and to the processing of acquired data. After conclusion all participants will receive a certificate of attendance, and a USB Pen drive with all the presentations, detailed equipment description, used software and experimental data.

Introduction Remote Observation Remote Sensing SST
Ocean Sensors Modeling, Part I & II Oceanic Modeling using Sea Trial Data
Robotics Telemetry Acoustic Data Processing
Equipment Setup and Sea Trial Preparation Sea Trial Data Preprocessing

The one day at sea component of the summer school will include the following experimental activities:

  • data acquisition from a towed sidescan SONAR;
  • CTD data acquisition;
  • robotic related activities (vehicle preparation, deployment, and control).
