General information

The Marine and Offshore Engineering MSc degree programme will give you a range of engineering skills and techniques appropriate for companies working in the marine and offshore field.

The skills acquired during this programme will allow you to make an immediate contribution to a company's capability and operation, and to ultimately progress into senior management positions. This programme capitalises on the demand for highly qualified postgraduates and maintains LJMU’s longstanding reputation for meeting the needs of the maritime industry. The Universitys' expanding and internationally acclaimed marine and offshore engineering research underpins the programme, ensuring the curriculum reflects contemporary practice and thinking within the sector. Current research activities focus on Marine and Offshore Engineering, Maritime and offshore Safety Analysis, and Marine Design Engineering. In addition, collaboration with industry and knowledge transfer is an important aspect of research within the School of Engineering, Technology and Maritime Operations.

Learning outcome:

Degree Requirements 
An Honours degree in a relevant engineering subject with a minimum 2.2 classification or a professional qualification with equivalent standing such as Maritime Coastguard Agency Class 1 (Marine Engineer) certificate of competence, or a non-UK equivalent.

Language Requirements
Non-UK applicants will be expected to demonstrate a very good level of English language competence, for example an IELTS score of 6.0-6.5 or equivalent (Min. 5.5 in each component). Applicants who have studied and successfully achieved a UK degree within 24 months of the start of the MSc are exempt from this requirement.

Grant Opportunities:

All full and part-time students enrolled on postgraduate taught programmes at LJMU are liable to pay an annual tuition fee. You can opt to pay your tuition fees in full at the start of each academic year or pay by instalments. Academic level: Master


Some modules also include testing of problem solving skills through a combination of unseen written examinations. Modules including CAD software and professional skills include assessment of development, as well as, attainment in these areas.
