Máster en Hidráulica Ambiental


Interuniversity Masters Program in Environmental Hydraulics, taught jointly by the University of Granada, Cordoba and Malaga. 

This postgraduate program provides advanced professional and research training in Engineering as well as natural resources management from both a multidisciplinary and specialized perspective by offering the possibility of choosing between five specializations. It is research and career-oriented, providing specialized training in the development and optimization of strategies in the Integral Management of Ports, Coastal Zones, River Basins and Natural Resources. This also includes their assessment and monitoring.

The program is structured according to the ECTS with 60 credits acquired over two semesters. The first Semester will be held at University of Granada, the second Semester, according to the specializations, will be held at Universities of Granada, Cordoba and Malaga. The Master Dissertation is developed during the second semester, in the field of specialization chosen by the student. The program is geared to giving students a deeper understanding of the core subjects in their undergraduate studies and provide an integrated, multidisciplinary view of the domain of Environmental Hydraulics.

In this period, as well as when students are elaborating their master’s dissertation, the teaching methodology in this program fosters a “learning by thinking” approach. This leads to a substantial reduction of blackboard use, and encourages individual work by students under the guidance of a supervisor at each partner university. The students thus receive training in experimental and field work, which prepares them for the professional world.

Objective:

This Postgraduate Program is based on a previously certified Doctorate Program in Biogeochemical Fluid Dynamics and its Applications. It is thus conducive to advanced professional and research training from a multidisciplinary and specialized perspective in Environmental Hydraulics. More specifically, it trains students for the following experimental and professional activities:

  • Describing and modeling natural processes related to water flows, substances and natural resources, as well as their interaction with the infrastructures necessary for their integral management.
  • Optimizing the management of both continental and sea and ocean water resources, together with associated flows, according to social, environmental and economical impacts in accordance with the reliability, functionality and operability criteria from the WFD (Water Framework Directive).
  • Describing and assessing processes uncertainty, diagnosis, and prediction.
  • Performing professional activity and work with creativity and critical thinking, without being afraid to reason, question existing ideas, and propose new ones, in consonance with the basic premises of the scientific method.

The objectives in every specialization area are:

  • E1. Integral Management of Ports and Coastal Zones (UGR). To give students a deeper understanding and knowledge of marine environments and littoral processes, their use and management, with an emphasis on the integral management of ports and coastal zones and their interaction.
  • E2. Integral Management of River Basins (UCO). To give students a deeper understanding and knowledge of hydrological processes in earth and fluvial environments, water and soil resources management and conservation with a focus on the integral management of river basins.
  • E3. Vehicle Aero-Hydrodynamics (UMA). To analyze and monitor the hydrodynamics of earth, air, and submarine vehicles, and to implement this knowledge in the design and improvement of both automatic and crewed navigation for environmental control.
  • E4. Management of Aquatic Ecosystems (UGR). To qualitatively and quantitatively analyze and assess the state and ecological potential of artificial and natural aquatic ecosystems (lakes, rivers, wetlands, reservoirs, estuaries, coastal lagoons, marine environments, etc.) in order to establish and apply models as well as management and environmental recovery programs.
  • E5. Learn the dynamic processes and forcings that characterize geophysical flows. Learn specific and advanced techniques of numerical simulation for geophysical flows. Learn methodologies and techniques for the visualization and data interpretation. Learn the tools, methodologies and numerical techniques for the study of coupling hydrodynamic-biology.

Prerequisites:

Para poder acceder a los estudios oficiales del Máster será necesario estar en posesión de un título universitario oficial español u otro expedido por una institución de educación superior del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior que faculten en el país expedidor del título para el acceso a enseñanzas de Máster. Requisitos de admisión: 

  • Nota media del expediente académico.
  • Conocimientos previos en materias relacionadas con el máster.
  • Conocimientos básicos de programación y entorno Matlab.
  • Conocimientos de inglés.
  • Adecuación al máster de la formación del solicitante.

Assessment:

Continuous assessment. Formal examinations are given at the end of the first two semesters to those students who have not received a positive evaluation in the continuous assessment process or who are on the borderline between a pass and a fail.
