Economic valuation of biodiversity loss in Ria Formosa - Public's WTP

Although is well known that the marine environment is important and must be preserved, it’s hard to quantify how important it is to the general public. This study has made an attempt to investigate the determinants of Ria Formosa users willingness to pay (WTP) for marine biodiversity conservation. Results, based on face-to-face interviews showed that factors as education and income are significant when it comes to predict WTP for marine biodiversity conservation. It’s possible to conclude with this study, that conservation policy, must take in account cultural diferences.
