With increasing globalisation, managing the international movement of trade and goods across the global transport network has become a highly specialised business. This one-year top-up course is designed to help you meet the demands of that growing industry, building on your existing studies and skills and developing a sophisticated, practical understanding of the interactions and complexity of managing international logistics operations.

Learning outcomes

You will build a thorough and up-to-date foundation of skills in logistics and supply chain management, explore the processes involved in every step of the logistics and supply chain network, and learn to make decisions based on the latest theory and best practice from the industry.

The degree is internationally diverse, reflecting the global nature of the industry and giving you the benefit of direct exposure to a range of cultural attitudes and approaches to business – as well as a network of global contacts.

On graduating you’ll be able to make an immediate contribution in the workplace, having developed your practical business and managerial skills through study of real-world problems derived from the industry, and learned practicable applications of theoretical and technical concepts and processes.

Taught by staff with a wide range of experience and knowledge, you will develop deep understanding and good judgement, an analytical approach to problem solving and an ability to communicate effectively – the ideal package of skills the industry is looking for. And our annual maritime conference brings professionals from all across the industry, as well as Solent alumni, to share their career experiences and help you refine and develop your professional connections. 

Prerequisites

240 CATs from a relevant shipping or management-focused degree.

Alternatively, a relevant diploma from a recognised partner under MOU (SMA and NMIT).

English language requirements

Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are:

  • IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component
  • TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component
  • or equivalent.

Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.

The University also offers a pre-sessional English programme for international students who wish to improve their level of English before starting a degree course.
