Security Awareness Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties

Scope:

The Security Awareness Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties course has been designed to meet the requirements of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, Table A-VI/6-2.

Course content:

  • Knowledge of current security threaths and patterns;
  • Methods of physical searches of persons, personal effects, baggage, cargo and ship stores;
  • Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices;  Recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security;
  • Crowd management and control techniques;
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans;
  • Testing, calibration and at-sea maintenance of security equipment and systems.
Objective:

Those who succesfully complete this course should be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge to undertake the duties assigned under the SSP.
