Recognizing individual patterns in short snout seahorse populations using photo identification

Seahorses inhabit shallow, coastal areas worldwide, where anthropogenic disturbances tend to be most frequent and severe, so their conservation and management is a present day concern and efficient surveillance tools need to be design. Photo identification is a non-invasive tool for mark-recapture studies that can be successfully used to survey the population abundance of other seahorse species. Thus, this study aim to test if this technique can also be successfully used for individual recognition of short snout seahorse populations. Collected information will be analyzed using a computer program algorithm to allow individual comparison.
