MSc in Subsea Engineering

General information

A Subsea Engineering MSc that is completely connected to the UK's Subsea Industry. Aberdeen has a larger concentration of Subsea companies than anywhere else in the world, benefiting you, the student in many ways.

This programme will develop you in to a highly-trained, highly-qualified, business-aware graduate who can make an immediate impact in your chosen career, and who will have the drive and skills needed to continuously strengthen the subsea industry.

We have a unique relationship with the subsea industry both locally and internationally, and the programme receives contributions from local industrial organisations in terms of relevant and up-to-the minute contributions to teaching, and support in the specification of group and individual projects.

You will develop an increased technical depth and breadth of knowledge and understanding of the development and operation of subsea technologies and systems. You will develop the intellectual and practical skills required to apply sound engineering principles and analysis methods to the design and installation of subsea systems, and you will learn how to use and adapt appropriate analysis tools and techniques, specialist design software and standards for design improvements and performance optimisation.

Cost:

For international students entering in 2017/18, the 2017/18 tuition fee rate will apply to all years of study.

  • HOME / EU / RUK STUDENTS: £4.500
  • INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: £18.300

Prerequisites:

Degree Requirements
2:1 (upper second class) UK Honours degree, or an Honours degree from a non-UK institution which is judged by the University to be of equivalent worth in any branch of Engineering.

Flexibility may be shown to distance-learning students with 2:2 Engineering and 5+ years experience.

Language Requirements 

All students entering the University must provide evidence that they can use English well enough to study effectively at the University of Aberdeen.
Details of our English language entry requirements can be found on our English Language Requirements webpages. This programme requires that you meet the College of Physical Sciences Postgraduate Standard level of English proficiency.
If you have not achieved the required scores, the University of Aberdeen offers pre-sessional English courses. Further details are available on our Language Centre website.
Nationals of some English-speaking countries or those who hold degrees from some English-speaking countries may be exempt from this requirement. Details of countries recognised as English-speaking can be found on our English Language Requirements webpages.


Application Procedure:

In order to submit an application you will need to upload:

  • A completed online Postgraduate Application form
  • Degree transcript. A full transcript showing all the subjects you studied and the marks you have achieved in your degree(s) so far (original & official English translation)
  • Proof of proficiency in English (International applicants)
  • Personal Statement. Detailed personal statement explaining your motivation for this particular programme
  • Degree Certificate: a degree certificate showing your qualifications
  • current CV/resume
  • Optional - academic reference letter OR employer if you have 2+ years of experience.

Application deadlines
There is no deadline for those students classified as UK/EU, but allow sufficient time for your application to be processed (approximately 3 weeks). 

Prospective students who require a visa to study in the UK are advised to apply as early as possible to secure a place, approximately 10 weeks prior to the commencement date of the programme. Applications for full-time study received after 30th June will be considered for entry into the following intake as appropriate. Distance-learners should apply as soon as possible and by 31st July.

Assessment:

Assessed by a combination of coursework and written examination. The distance learning coursework is submitted to the course tutor through the web-site and marks and comments will be sent back, also via the web. Arrangements can be made for examinations to be taken at a convenient place for you. Distance learning students near to Aberdeen are able to take their examinations at the University.
