The purpose of the Master Course is to provide specific knowledge in the field of Marine Geomatics, both theoretical and practical, training professionals qualified to carry out high responsibility operational tasks in the field of hydrography and related sciences. The course is a second level Postgraduates Master Course.

The Master is designed for University graduates holding a specialistic degree in scientific disciplines, as indicated in the Admission Requierements, and Navy Officers from Italy and abroad. The Master is designed also for University graduates holding a specialistic degree in other disciplines, as long as in possession of the necessary requisites of competence and professional experience.

Course organization

15 months long, the Master Course includes a theoretical classroom activities and a practical training at sea. A final examination closes the course.
The formative program provides three different specializations:

1. Hydrography for Nautical Cartography: collecting, processing and charting hydro-geographical data, with particular reference to vector electronic charts.
2. Hydrography for Coasts and ports management: geomorphological, hydrographic and oceanographic surveys for land management, port management, coastal engineering, and so forth.
3. Remote Sensing: analysis of data and hydro oceanographic applications with active and passive remote sensing methods.

Academic degree
Postgraduate Master Course degree.
University of Genoa will validate up to 90 Formative Credits (CFU).

Career opportunities
The employment opportunities offered by the Master are various, Companies and institutions operating in the fields of marine resources, coastal, port and maritime works, underwater works (maritime works foundations, conduit and cable laying, dredging), nautical equipment production and nautical charting, Local Authorities, Port Authorities, Civil Protection and the Istituto Idrografico della Marina.

After the Master Course and two years of documented operational work, students can obtain the Category A hydrographer qualification, ratified by the International Hydrographic Organization.
