Investigating the Cape Horn Current

Type:
Master Thesis subject (30 ECTS)
programme:
EMBC+
The Cape Horn Current, running southwards along the southern coast of Chile from approximately 40S, is probably the least studied of the world's major ocean currents. We know that it is driven by the prevailing westerly winds and the run-off from the Patagonian rivers, but we do not know which of these factors is more important, how the strength of the current varies, or how much it contributes to the flow through Drake Passage. This project will address such questions by analyzing a reanalysis (model best guess) of the CHC over the last 50 years.
