European Masters Course in Integrated Advanced Ship Design (EMSHIP)


The objective of the EMSHIP education platform is to provide a high education level in Naval Architecture and Ship & Offshore Design, through 18 months Master Courses. 

EMSHIP gives the opportunity to candidates to demonstrate their talents and offer them the necessary skills to work in this challenging industry (marine and offshore field).

EMSHIP Added Values

  • Two engineering degrees (double degree) awarded by two European countries (Belgium and France), "Advanced Master in Naval Architecture" and "Master of Sciences in Applied Mechanics, specialization in Hydrodynamics, Energetics and Propulsion" with a supplement diploma from one of the EMShip partner university;
  • Mobility in 3 EU countries (Belgian, France and Germany, Poland, Italy, Romania), with a possiblity of an Internship worldwide in Japan, USA, Australia, Korea, Brazil, ….)
  • High diversity of specialization: Pleasure craft and yacht design, Offshore structures, CFD and hydrodynamics, Production, Ship design and Ship Structures.
  • Full English education, with opportunity to learn French, German, Italian, Spanish, Polish, …

Degree Awarded: 

A double master degree from University of Liege (EMSHIP coordinator, Belgium) and ECN (Nantes, France):

  • ULG : Specialized Master, 60 credits: "Advanced Master in Naval architecture",
  • ECN: Master 60 credits: Master in "Applied Mechanics, specialized in Hydrodynamics, Energetics and Propulsion", A “Supplement to Diploma” referring to the 3rd mobility done in Germany (Rostock), Italy (Genoa), Poland (Szczecin) , Romania (Galati) or France (ICAM, Nantes) , including the industrial internship (4-5 months) and master thesis.

Cost:

EMSHIP tuition fees are the following: 

EU applicants: 9000 EURO.
Non-EU applicants: 9000 EURO. 

Depending of the number of self-funding registered EMSHIP students on the academic year; we may give industrial scholarship to cover the tuition fees. The decision will be taken on late March/April (5 month before start of education).


Prerequisites:

The applicant must hold a master degree obtained after five years of studies. In Belgium, five years of studies are equivalent to 300 credits (60 credits for each year). Typically, your application can be accepted if you hold at least a 3 years bachelor degree and a 2 years master degree or a 4 years bachelor degree and a one-year master degree.​ However, if you do not fulfill these conditions (for instance you have no master or you have only 4 years of education), there are some special situations for which you can be accepted.

Note that English practice is mandatory as all the lectures are in English. You will need to provide a TOEFL / IELTS certificate or a proof that English was your previous education language or any other document stating your English proficiency.


Application Procedure:

The application to EMSHIP ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIP (2016-2018) is NOW CLOSED.
The next application (2017-2019) will start September 15th 2016 to Deadline 31th December 2016 for all students.

But the application without EMSHIP ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIP is still open.

To apply for the EMSHIP Master you need to create an account and password in the “Application” on the online application platform

Please find below main documents to be provided for EMSHIP application:

  • Nationality certificate or a copy of the passport;
  • Copy of your Secondary School Diploma translated in English or French
  • Copies of your higher education studies diploma and a transcript of record with a translation (by a sworn translator) into English or French
  • A summary of your final dissertation in French or English and a copy of the contents page
  • An English Proficiency 
  • Please provide, year by year, official documents for the past five years if they are not covered by your last diploma- translation in English or French if they are not
  • Two Recommendation letters in English.
  • Eligibility certificate to perform a PhD (for those who hold only a bachelor degree)

Grant Opportunities:
  • European Commission scholarships: 8 Scholarships for Non-European candidates.
  • Consortium scholarships:  for EU and NON EU candidates. The number and amount of scholarships will be fixed according to the number of students registered and their nationality. It will be distributed according of their CV and their motivation
  • Industrial scholarships: provided by Emship industrial partners - shipyards, ship designers, classification societies, manufacturers, ship-owners, operators, etc.(3 students per cycle)
  • Scholarships from Liege University: for EU and non EU students
  • Academic scholarships: for excellent and good applicants
