The effect of North Atlantic Oscillation on oceanographic drivers: an intra-regional study

Type:
Master Thesis subject (30 ECTS)
programme:
EMBC+
The evidence that environmental factors (hydrological and oceanographic) are affected by large scale factors variability is widely recognized, but it would be a mistake to conclude that the regional effects response to large scale phenomenon’s is similar among regions or that local regional features and oceanographic condition do not overlap large scale effects. This study will try to unravel the role of North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), a large scale factor, on regional oceanographic variables in different areas of the Portuguese coast (does NAO have a global effect over a given region or not and what effect NAO have on other oceanographic features). Data is already available. The student will be introduced to the development of statistical analyses (time series analyses; correlative spatial analyses) that will combine different type of information.
