COASTAL SEASCAPE ECOLOGY OF SEAGRASS MEADOWS

Type:
Internship position (12 ECTS)
programme:
EMBC+
Coastal ecosystems represent vulnerable marine systems in which seagrasses fulfill a key role. Improving our understanding of the impacts of environmental changes on seagrass meadows is challenging. With this purpose, an increasing number of studies have been published on species distribution models (SDMs) of marine species over recent years. Terrestrial-based landscape metrics used as predictors in SDMs have achieved favorable results. However, little progress has been made in the integration of landscape/seascape metrics in marine SDMs. We propose an innovative approach to investigate the response to environmental and landscape changes of seagrass meadows of different species. The student will have the opportunity to integrate seascape metrics into SDMs using geographic information systems (GIS).
