General information

Continuous Professional Development Course, April 2017 for Graduates, Researchers, Marine Industry Professionals and Observers.

This intensive Continuous Professional Development Course (CPD) is designed for graduates, researchers, marine professionals and observers  who wish to gain practical skills and experience in offshore biological sampling and data collection will run for four days.

Course Topics include:

  • Applications of Marine Biological Sampling and Data Collection
  • Sampling Campaign, Design, Planning and Implementation
  • Fisheries Catch, Bycatch and Discard Sampling and Recording
  • Visual and Acoustic Surveying and Monitoring for Marine Mammals
  • Visual Methods for the Identification of and Collection of Data on Seabirds
  • Ecological and Environmental Impacts of Marine Industries

Course partners for 2016 were Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) and SMART.

Instruction is by key academic staff and researchers at GMIT and the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group with extensive track records in research and consultancy.

Places on the course are restricted to 20 and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.  Course fees of €500 are payable on acceptance of place to GMIT.  The closing date for applications is the 11th of March.
